Moving a large horse and rider from the gallery required equipment to lift the horse body off the legs, remove the heavy base plinth, and reset the body back on the legs.
Horse body back on its two - not four - legs attached to a wooden base for transport to collections storage. Caring for the museum’s collection sometimes requires physical movement done with tools that protect the age, materials, and stability of the work of art.
In old buildings, you can’t always move art directly from the gallery to storage. As Exhibitions Manager, I am basically an onlooker making sure that our talented Collections team is making good progress with the deinstallation.
